Summary of Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Board Meeting
December 16, 2014
The regular meeting of the Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Board of Education was called to order by President Tom Steiner in the Trevor-Wilmot library at 7:00 P.M. Board members present were Bill Barhyte, Lynn Jaeger, Tom Steiner and Dean Troyer. Also in attendance were Dr. George Steffen, District Administrator, Michelle Brown, District Business Manager, Ted Gavlin, Principal, Tracy Donich, Curriculum Director, Rhonda Jahns, Recording Secretary, Mary Fenske, Mike Fenske, Wendi Unger and Paul Frantz from Baker Tilly.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Board approved the Consent Agenda which included the agenda for that night's meeting, the minutes of the Board Meeting and Executive Session on November 18, 2014, the minutes of the Board Meeting and Executive Session on December 2, 2014, the Financial Report and the Summary of Receipts, Wire Transfers and Check Register.
The Board approved payment of the December bills in the General Fund in the amount of $150,993.41, in the Special Education Fund in the amount of $13,643.16, in the Capital Expansion Fund in the amount of $7,865.00, and in the Food Service Fund in the amount of $15,527.11 for a Grand Total of $188,028.68. The Board also approved expenditures in the Student Activities Fund which totaled $4,874.12. Salaries and benefits for November totaled $419,912.45.
Wendi Unger and Paul Frantz from Baker Tilly reviewed the District's 2013-14 financial audit. Ms. Unger reviewed the fund balance and indicated that this was healthy. She then reviewed the Debt Service Fund and the accrued liability for the trust fund for post-employment benefits.
Ms. Unger then answered questions from Board members and Dr. Steffen.
During the Administrator's Report, Dr. Steffen indicated that the Staff Holiday Party had been held on December 15th. He reported that the flu virus was affecting attendance, but was not at epidemic levels with a total of fifteen students absent that day with flu-like symptoms, one of whom was confirmed with influenza and one who was confirmed with pneumonia.
Dr. Steffen announced that the District's application for the Headsprout Educator Grant had been accepted. This software program and license will be pilot-tested by reading specialists and used for reading interventions for beginning readers through fourth grade. Dr. Steffen thanked Curriculum Director, Tracy Donich for obtaining this grant.
Dr. Steffen explained that the school has been experiencing problems with the fire alarm system and the water storage tanks that feed the sprinkler system.
During Board Member Comments and Communications, Dean Troyer and Lynn Jaeger congratulated students and teachers for excellent holiday music programs.
During Committee Reports, Lynn Jaeger explained that the Academic Achievement Committee discussed the new Mastery Connect Report Cards at their meeting on December 12th.
The Board then took the following actions:
- Approved a Settlement Agreement
- Cancelled the January 6, 2015 Board Meeting
During Citizen Comments, Mary Fenske said the financial audit review was enlightening.
