School Learning Objective: In the 2017-18 school year, each grade level at Trevor-Wilmot School from 5K through 8th grade will gain a minimum of 115% of their expected grade level growth in the Vocabulary goal strand of the MAP Reading assessment.
Instructional/Leadership Strategies and Support: (What methods or interventions will you use to support this objective?)
- All teachers will provide strong universal reading instruction with explicit teaching.
- Literacy coaches will provide support for universal reading instruction.
- Utilize Achieve 3000 with strong teacher presence for vocabulary in grades 3-8 and
SmartyAnts with strong teacher presence in grades 5K-2.
- Utilize Scholastic News for informational text in grades 5K-2 with strong teacher presence.
- Utilize Word Work protocols especially vocabulary (ie. Words Their Way and
Vocabulary Their Way).
- Implement vocabulary instruction using authentic texts in all content areas.
- Implement 50% of running records with informational texts for appropriate grades.
- Calculate the new SLO growth target for grades 5K-8.
- Conduct systems check classroom walk-throughs during curriculum implementation.
- Conference with the literacy team (curriculum director & literacy coaches) twice per trimester for updates.
- Utilize a Title I paraprofessional to support targeted instruction within classroom
environments.
- Set individual Vocabulary Goals with each student using new NWEA goal setting
tools.
Progress to Date: According to the end of the year 2018 assessment data, we have partially met the School Learning Objective.
